JACKIE MATTHEWS MBE : Lifetime President
Our Co-founder, former ballet teacher and dancer has been recognised for her achievements in the Queen's New Year Honour's List 2008. Jacqueline Matthews, of Harrogate, has received an MBE in the annual list for her services to the Louise Browne Scholarship Centre. She was 85 years young on 8th March 2009
Jackie helped set up the scholarship scheme in 1954, and in 1986, when the Royal Academy Scholarship scheme closed down, began the Louise Browne Ballet Scholarship Centre. Jackie has danced herself for more than 60 years, and has been seen doing the odd dance on a Saturday. She believes that children should get as much opportunity as they can to do something with their talent. She has taught thousands of children over the years and many have gone on to dance professionally. Jackie is now taking things more slowly and has been awarded Lifetime President status.
Jackie meets the Queens 1st May 2008
