We are priveleged at Scholars to have Gill Caplan and Simon Horrill as our regular teachers.
Gill Caplan A.R.A.D F.R.S.A Examiner to the Royal Academy of Dance
Gill was trained at Arts Educational Trust & with Anna Northcote (Russian School) gaining qualifications in Advanced Ballet RAD, Advanced Modern Dance ISTD, Advanced Tap ISTD and Intermediate Cecchetti.
She has danced with The Opera Ballet with Sir Thomas Beecham, Keith Beckett Ballet Company and The Festival Ballet. She was a Principal Dancer in musicals, film and television and has conducted Lectured demonstrations of Classical and Pas De Deux and Lecturer of regional courses for the RAD. She was also contracted as Principal to Stuttgart Ballet Company.
Gill is a Registered Teacher and Life Member of the Royal Academy of Dance ARAD and Principal of the Gill Caplan School of Ballet since 1972. She has lectured at Leeds University Contemporary Dance, Park Lane College of Further Education GCSE dance, Wakefield College of Further Education B Tec Ballet and has trained and entered students at O'level ballet and Major syllabus - pointe work classes and teachers certificate courses. She was a co-founder and senior ballet teacher at Leeds College of Dance. She has been an Examiner for the RAD since 1979 and has herself taught and entered major students up to and including Solo Seal. She is a Tutor and Director of the Louise Browne Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre, a qualified first aider and a Fellow for the Royal Society of Arts.
Simon Horrill is a former member of the Royal Ballet and currently teaches at The London Studio.
Simon was also a 1st Soloist with the Scottish Ballet and Principal at the London City Ballet in addition to spending time with the Quicksilver Ballet Company, Ballet Classico de Valencia, Atusko Ballet and Cyprus Ballet. He has also appeared on Televison with the Royal Opera House for numerous productions for the BBC. He appeared in the Royal Gala, Royal Variety Performance, House of Elliott, Murder Most Horrid, Vanity Fair and Love in a Cold Climate amongst many others. His Film and Theatre appearances include playing Carbuckety and Mr. Mistoffelees in Cats. He has choreographed numerous productions and has taught at the London Studio since 1999. Prior to this post, he was the Associate Lecturer at the University of Surrey responsible for BA (Hons) ballet modules. He was the Education Officer for the City of London Ballet and Guest Teacher in Japan.
It is a wonderful advantage for our male Scholars to have a male teacher and at Scholars they are free to express themselves with other boys of similar abilities under the expert guidance and support of Simon.
